ABOUT US
ABOUT JMABC
The Jewish Medical Association of B.C. was founded shortly after the October 7 attacks to confront the growing antisemitism across the medical system. We bring Jewish and allied professionals together, we advocate for a health system free of antisemitism, and we work to prevent antisemitic activities when they arise.
HISTORY
A number of committed Jewish medical professionals were concerned at the growing antisemitism in the health care system in the fall of 2023. Witnessing antisemitism’s rise in medical system and in medical education, a number of professionals came together to found the JMABC to challenge this antisemitism and to build a safe place for Jewish professional and allies in the system.
Since our founding the JMABC has met with officials from health authorities, UBC medical school, and other health organizations to introduce our organization, explain the antisemitism we have witnessed, and to offer our services as a source of information on antisemitism.
We’ve hosted numerous events for members and the wider community since our founding, including events that help members connect and build relationships, education offerings in partnership with other community groups, and student session to bring together the next generation of Jewish medical professionals.
JMABC members are physicians, allied health care professionals, and students throughout British Columbia. We welcome Jewish and non-Jewish colleagues who are Zionists and support the State of Israel. We acknowledge that our members hold a wide range of viewpoints and we aim to create a safe space to be authentically Jewish where we can express our support for the legitimacy and safety of the State of Israel.
The Jewish medical community and the JMABC are growing stronger together. We will continue to confront antisemitism and support our members. All of this is done with the goal of creating a safe environment for Jewish healthcare professionals, learners and patients.
